COMING SOON – STS. PETER & PAUL TRANSITIONAL SHELTER

When you are driving down Interstate 55 or passing through Soulard your eyes are usually drawn up to the sky by our soaring steeple of the church building. As you follow the steeple down you are most likely awestruck at the beautiful gothic architecture and stone work, and that may be the extent of your admiration of the actual building.
However, the most beautiful space in the church may not be the sanctuary or building, but the basement of the church. What many people may not realize is that our basement of the church is not full of dusty old pews and storage, but that it is being transformed into a transitional shelter for men making the journey from homelessness to independence.

The shelter is most properly located beneath the altar, our communal table of celebration in the subfloor of the Church.
Once the renovation of the space is complete, the shelter will be a temporary home for up to 25 men as they gain job and life skills, allowing them to find and keep a job and save up for their own apartment. The basic needs of shelter, food, showers, laundry, lockers and staff support will be provided.
