Peter & Paul Community Services Inc. - Homeless Shelter

When you are driving down Interstate 55 or passing through Soulard your eyes are usually drawn up to the sky by our soaring steeple of the church building.  As you follow the steeple down you are most likely awestruck at the beautiful gothic architecture and stone work, and that may be the extent of your admiration of the actual building.

However, maybe the most beautiful space in the church is not the sanctuary or building, but the basement of the church.  What many people may not realize is that our basement of the church is not full of dusty old pews and storage, but that it has been transformed into a homeless shelter for our community.

The shelter is most properly located beneath the altar, our communal table of celebration in the subfloor of the Church.

The shelter is home to about 70 men and is open 365 days a year. The basic needs of shelter, food, showers, laundry, lockers and staff support are available nightly. Most importantly, the shelter provides a warm, safe, caring alternative to living on the street.

How You Can Help

If you are looking to get involved in supporting or helping the shelter there are a variety ways to, including:

  • Donating items such as toiletries and laundry supplies

  • Providing financial support to the shelter

  • Volunteering to serve meals

  • Sponsoring a meal

  • Volunteering to help at the shelter

We invite you to contact Peter and Paul Community services, the 501(c)(3) nonprofit in charge of managing the shelter, for more information and ways to help.
